Already compared with the likes of Frank Ocean and SOHN, Thomston took the music blog scene by storm when he leaked an experimental EP in 2014. Since then 20 year old Thomas Stoneman, better known for his stage name Thomston has garnered over 40 million Spotify streams and international media attention. His material, from 2014’s ‘Argonaut’ EP to 2015’s ‘Backbone’ release, offer a brooding snapshot of suburban teenage transitions, and act as “the perfect introduction to an intriguing new artist” (Fader).
He’s back with his first solo single since 2016 'Acid Rain' and it may be his most unabashed pop moment yet. It’s a minimal affair with most of the verses sung over uncrowded guitar plucks but it flies into gospel territory for the choir-assisted chorus. It magnifies his songwriting and vocals, revealing a budding superstar who is coming for pop’s big guns. Rather than settling in a lane, Thomston has forced himself on a trajectory to even bigger things and this is just the first step in another new era for the young artist.
